Aussie Ari’s amazing acrobat stunts - Saturday 9th April 2011

An Australian aerial acrobat has upped sticks from his native Sydney to live and train in Wolverhampton.
Ari Levanael, who goes by the name of Amazing Ari, is now showing off his stunning acrobatics at the Wolf Mountain climbing centre on Paget Road. Visitors to Wolf Mountain watched Ari, who now lives in Tettenhall, and applauded as he showed off his skill dangling from silk banners.
He has performed around the world and on TV since taking up the art at the age of 21.
And he has taught aspiring performers aged between five and 50.
He said: “I do lots of crazy tricks, from hanging by my neck to tumbling down to the ground.
“It’s a matter of focus. You have to be mentally focused.
Concentration
“You are hanging upside down really high and you can fall really easily if you’re not concentrating.”
He said the popularity of live stage shows by Britney Spears, Kylie and Take That, which have featured aerial acrobats, had increased the popularity of the art. He said: “It’s more accessible because of mainstream culture.
“Circus is a really big thing in pop culture. It improves your flexibility, but you don’t have to be a gymnast to do it. I think it’s for anyone.”
Ari said he had been in the UK on and off for five years and his grandfather was born in the country.
He said: “I was working in Australia doing bits and pieces but I decided to spread my wings and so I left all my work and all my family to come here and start again.
“Tettenhall’s lovely and Wolf Mountain is a great place to train because it’s got the height.”

Some pics from last weekends Pretty Peepers Cabaret NIght @ The Imperial Sydney. Was an amazing night with loads of great performers. Was honoured to be asked to perform. The lovely and talented Glitta Supernova really put on something magical for everyone.

I did a new boylesque show where I start on stage in a bathrobe and towel then strip it off and have a spongebath on stage while miming to a dirty electro track. Just a bit of fun really, then I towel myself off and leave the stage. Quite funny. The crowd seemed to enjoy it. Its all very G rated though, they only see my bum!

Last weekend I went to Hong Kong to perform with Empress Stiltdance for a big event at the Hong Kong Convention Centre for Mass Mutual.

There ended up being 3 Aerialists in the end after the four of us originally found out there was only 3 rigging points!

So here are some pics.

Hong Kong is a great city and loads of fun for shopping. It was my second time there performing.

Ari Levanael is a respected and accomplished aerial artist who performs throughout the world. His most recent work took him to the USA for the Dallas Purple Party, Amanda Lepore`s Carnival, Matinee NYC and The London Tattoo Convention as special guest performer with The Fuel Girls.

He was invited to perform as the finale for Irelands Exposé Live Dublin Fashion Parades and at Jackson’s Lane Theatre in London as part of the successful circus cabaret whodunit Murder. He is also a regular performer at London’s Circus bar and restaurant and continually travels performing, choreographing and teaching aerial arts to other aspiring performers.

The Sydney Opera House invited him for Late Night Lounge Cabaret in there summer season in 2010 and he performed for The Wella International Trend Vision Awards in Germany.

He was also broadcast live for the Zain Football League launch and performed for the Royal family in Saudi Arabia.

Ari has worked for the Discovery Channel in London, the Torture Garden NYE Ball and for Salvation Moscow, Antwerp, Sydney, London and Berlin.

Among his various guest spots at cabaret venues, he has also featured in 2009 and 2010 at the Sydney Mardi Gras for the official and closing parties and residency at one of Sydney’s largest venues.

He has wowed audiences in the UK, USA, Australia, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Germany, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Sweden, Hong Kong, Turkey and Greece. On UK television he featured in an ITV promo for Take That and also the ident for the BBC documentary channel Eden.

Developed with years of performance and worldwide travels, his goal is to create innovative performance for audiences over the world using physical skill, costume, sound and light. His performance skills range from the aerial circus arts; aerial silk, Spanish web, corde lisse, static trapeze and aerial ring to harness work, fire dance and pole dance.

Ari received acclaim for performing his breathtaking aerial silk routine blindfolded for Torture Garden Productions London’s Erotica Showcase in 2008 and again featured a daring new Rope act in 2009.

He has featured other shows for corporate events at the famous Café de Paris, Hippodrome, Bournemouth Opera House and Koko. He has also performed for audiences at events such as the Glastonbury Festival in the UK, The Tassle Club Ireland, Salon Rouge UK, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, the Storas, Ibsen, Jessheim and Moon Festivals in Norway, at numerous festivals throughout Australia and at the grand opening of the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong.

Dazzling audiences at events for major international corporations including MTV, Wella, Discovery Channel, IBM, Motorola, Tag Worldwide, Coca Cola, Virgin Airlines, Sydney Fitness Expo, Sydney Motor Show, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Sony to name a few.

This week I went to a beautiful town in Italy called Olevano to film my cameo role in a horror film "Bloody Sin" directed by a young talented director Domiziano Cristopharo.

Was a great experience and I was happy to be invited to be a part of the film. Unfortunatley due to my time restrictions I couldnt film my original role in the movie but in the end my role as Blue beard was well suited to me.

I grew my beard for the part and it got shorter as the filming progressed.
